HUCKING

Sunday 2nd January 2010

After being unable to meet for training due to the bad weather conditions recently, it was good to be able to meet at The Hook and Hatchet on Saturday 2 January.
There was a good turn out as usual with 32 dogs and around 35 walkers and it was good to see some new members joining us for their dogs’ first club walk.

The day was perfect for walking with the sun shining, snow on the fields and the mud frozen enough to walk on without sinking!!  We set off at 10.30 walking the route in reverse for a change.  We quickly arrived in the first open field where the dogs were let off.  Clearly there was some energy to spare and they all had a really good run, but all were very well behaved.

We headed through the woodlands paths in crocodile fashion with the young lively dogs taking the lead and the older dogs bringing up the rear.  A few dogs had fun on the frozen ponds, cracking the ice and playing in the freezing water, but others stayed well away!

A young boxer on his first walk with the club got a little over excited and found himself separated from the group, but after splitting up to search for him, he was quickly found and none the worse for his little adventure.

We arrived back at the Hook and Hatchet at 12.30 but decided that the garden was not as inviting in these temperatures, so we piled into the pub instead for a welcome drink.

Thanks again to Anne and Terry for organising a wonderful winter walk.

Webmaster note: Thanks to Su (Good) for the report and Ian (Astley) for the photos.

CAPSTONE COUNTRY PARK

Sunday 7th March 2010

Once again the members of Stockbury dog club enjoyed great weather with sunshine and blue skies, although it was definitely cold enough in the wind for the gloves and hats to go on!  Around 37 club members met in the car park at Capstone park at 9.45 am, along with 38 dogs, some on their first club walk.

We set off at 10.00 with Ann leading the way up the hill.  The track was a bit muddy and slippery in places, with dogs cheerfully taking the blame when some members ended up on the ground!!

Some dogs find the puddles.

And some find the food.

Capstone Park was fairly busy with dog walkers that morning but all the dogs were on their best behaviour - even when meeting other groups of dogs head on there were no problems.
Around noon we arrived back at the café, having walked just under 3 miles (with a few stops for photos and to regroup – we don’t walk that slowly!), where hot drinks and plenty of chips were enjoyed, while the dogs sat dribbling nearby.

As usual thanks to Ann and Terry for organising the walk and to all the members who attended.
Thanks also to Mick for managing the training alone whilst we enjoyed ourselves!!

Webmaster note: Thanks to Su (Good) for the report

KINGS WOOD

Sunday 13th June 2010

We set off for our walk at 10am along the pathways through the wood with Patricia in the lead. With 29 people and  24 dogs the group soon strung out into a column.  The route covered 2.38 miles and took us 75 mins to complete.

Thanks to Anne and Terry for organising the walk and Patricia for leading it.

RECULVER

Sunday 22nd August 2010

The group formed up in the car park next to the pub and Reculver towers and moved off at 10am. Up past the towers and then along the beach walking towards Margate for approximately an hour. After the group photo we left the beach to walk back along the promenade you then realise how quite and easy walking becomes without the pebbles.

Returning to the car park by about 12 noon with most people visiting the pub for refreshment before setting off home.

As usual thanks to Ann and Terry for organising the walk and to all the members who attended.

CAPSTONE COUNTRY PARK 2

Sunday 24th October 2010

For the second time this year we walked at Capstone Park and as in March the weather was kind to us.
Assembling for the walk in lovely Autumn sunshine we started off just after 10am. The line of 25 dogs and 25 handlers stretching out with Anne in the lead and Terry bringing up the rear.

Part way round we stopped for our normal group photo and then on across the field string out again with the dogs running all around us.

After about one hour twenty minutes we found ourselves back the cafe where drinks and food are available.

Then back to the car park into the cars.

As usual thanks to Ann and Terry for organising the walk and to all the members who attended.

CAPSTONE COUNTRY PARK 3

Sunday 12th December 2010

Sadly the recent weather had left the training field covered in snow this weekend which meant another Sunday morning with no training.
Luckily Ann came to the rescue and arranged a walk at very short notice.  This was well attended with twenty one dogs aged 2 to 14 and nineteen humans aged 14 to ***?!  We met in the car park at Capstone Park at 10am and set off quickly round the frozen lake and up the rather muddy hill.

The dogs were very full of energy and were clearly happy to be out in the open air.

Some avoided the many muddy icy puddles but others enjoyed a good roll around in the freezing mud.  Some of the humans also enjoyed getting their boots rather dirty!!!

We stopped for a group photo followed by an attempt to get all dogs in the down stay for a dog-only photo which went surprisingly well!

After a brisk hour and a half walk we arrived back at the café for a well earned hot drink and plate of chips.

Thanks to Ann and Terry for organising this at short notice and to Roger for taking the photos.

Webmaster note: Thanks to Su (Good) for the report
