STOCKBURY DOG CLUB
NEWSLETTER 3
A date for your Diary - 8th August. Display at Painters Forstal Village Fete. We did this last year and we are back by popular request, apparently everyone was very impressed with what they saw and was envious that their dog would not behave as well!!
Even if your dog is not in the display why not come along and support your club. There are many things you could help with such as , Hand Bag guard or Dog Minder for instance.
The new rules state that if your dog is inclined to snap at other dogs it MUST be MUZZLED. It would save much embarrassment if you would heed this, irrespective of how long you have been a member, and not wait to be spoken to by Mick or myself.
It is only a matter of time before some damage is done and our risk assessment demands that we introduce control measures before this happens.
It takes me a long time to catch on sometimes (in this case about 8 years) but I was reflecting on how often a ‘ruckus’ occurs at the end of the session when we are all milling around talking. It is at this time that there is no clear ‘Leader’ and the dominant dogs will see their opportunity to climb up the hierarchy. Dogs should be under control (command) at all times please, to prevent future occurrences.
Those of you who have needed the ‘Training Programme’, can I remind you that it will not be effective if you pick and choose the items. They have all to be done in the correct sequence and rigidly enforced until behaviour has been modified. It is of paramount importance that the dog sees you as the Alpha Leader as quickly as possible. We, the trainers know when you are and when you are not following the programme by the improvements seen on a weekly basis.
A thoroughly good display at Court Regis the other weekend. Everyone was on top form. Look out top team the intermediates are catching you up! Seriously tho’ I think it is about time some of the intermediate dogs are used as ‘stand ins’ as they are quite obviously good enough.
The Photographer at Court Regis wanted a picture of all the dogs together pulling on their leads - I told him to try another club!
All for now - Simon.
