NEWS LETTER 1
At our last committee meeting it was suggested that ‘someone’ should write a News Letter!
This was after a discussion on the club being seen as more than just a dog training club, it being also a social event for the handlers. I would be interested in your views as to what the news letter should contain, until then I will make a first attempt!
It is sad news to have to tell you first. ‘Murphy’ the white Shepherd and ‘Zed” the long haired shepherd sadly have recently died through illness. They were both long standing members of the club and in Murphy’s case he had been coming for the past seven years and was an important member of the display team. Our sympathy are extended to their families who must feel bereft.
Better news now, Sadie the shepherd worked with all the other dogs on Thursday 3rd June without her muzzle, well done Lou for all your hard work, and Bo’ the Briard has not worn his Halti for the past two weeks and has been learning his manners with other dogs very well.
I can remember how proud I felt when Joe, my Cocker, was a member of the display team, I used to think he was one of the best behaved in the club, but after having seen the present standard of our display team I now realise how far the club has come since those early days. I wonder if you have had the time to walk over to see what the display team are up to recently?
Why not come to the Lord Whiskey Dog Show at Stelling Minnis on June 12th where we are putting on a display?
Sometimes I wonder why I attend the club on those cold, wet winter days, but then when I look at the intermediate class and the top dog group and see the results of all the hard work put in it makes it all worth while. The standard of the beginners has also risen so when they are ready to leave that group they are already well on the way to being what I call ‘companion dogs’, well behaved and quite obedient. Ann the trainer loves working with the puppies and it shows!
The more time goes on the more I am convinced that our training methods work well. Understanding your dogs mind and how his/her brain works and learning to speak their language is far more effective than other more traditional training methods in my opinion. Many of the dogs you see working in the intermediate and top groups came to us as ‘remedial” having antisocial behaviour. The results are there to see.
My last word in this news letter is ‘make it fun for you and your dog’!
